The installation of a new 11kV Underground Electricity Cable near Blue Haze

  • 6km of new underground electricity cable running through both privately owned land and Forestry Commission land.
  • DM’s role included route feasibility, negotiation of terms, compiling legal documents and associated plans.
  • Agreeing access routes & site compound.
  • General project management throughout the scheme.
  • Negotiation of both agricultural and commercial compensation claims and reporting these back to the client accordingly.

Risks/ Constraints

  • Works undertaken near a busy stately home.
  • The environmental impact.
  • Impact upon the Forestry Commission had to be careful managed.
  • Damage to busy farm track.


  • A DM presence constantly on site whilst the main section of the works took place.
  • Cable installed using a mole plough to reduce time on site, disturbance and compensation claims.
  • Face to face discussions with landowners on a constant basis ensured that stakeholders were kept fully informed.
  • Detailed working method statements agreed with both contractors and landowners.
  • Proactive stance during construction and identified concerns early.
